Our September meeting was a busy one with a great atmosphere and lots of visitors! We had Becky Hill from Trussell (formerly The Trussel Trust) speak to us about the invaluable work that foodbanks do. We learned about the multiple ways a foodbank helps their community and how they do more than issue emergency food parcels. Many times, people visiting a foodbank need help, guidance and support to find the assistance they need, and foodbank volunteers are able to signpost them to the services they really need. Emergency food parcels are all nutritionally balanced, offering at least three days of meals to help those who receive them, as a short terms solution in a crisis. It was a very informative evening, and we are thankful to everyone who donated food so generously to our collection for Trussel.
We also had a lively food and drink themed quiz and our raffle prize was a beautiful fruit basket, won by one of our lucky visitors.
If you or someone you know is in need of support from a foodbank, please contact Trussel to find out where your nearest foodbank is. You can also find out how to donate food or money and how you can volunteer at the Trussel website.
