Green Island Gardens Trip

On a slightly overcast Wednesday morning in August, thirteen of us set off for Colchester’s Green Island Gardens, car-sharing in three vehicles to help reduce our carbon footprint. Instead of our usual monthly meeting, we had arranged this outing as one of our occasional social events, giving those who wished the chance to enjoy some time together in a different setting.

We arrived promptly and spent a pleasant hour exploring the beautifully maintained woods and gardens, admiring the carefully cultivated planting and pausing to appreciate several striking sculptures along the way. Cameras were put to good use, with plenty of photos taken to capture the morning.

Afterwards, we made our way to the restaurant, where we were treated to a delicious cream tea complete with homemade scones and raspberry jam — the perfect accompaniment to a good chat. Just as we were preparing to leave, the sun appeared, giving us the chance for another wander and a cheerful group photo.

It was a delightful way to spend the afternoon, and Ros remarked that she especially enjoyed including the visit as part of her birthday celebrations.
