WINK visit Rayleigh Windmill

Nine members of WINK had a lovely afternoon touring Rayleigh Windmill. Our guide, Trevor, was very knowledgable about the history of the windmill and Rayleigh in general. We learnt many interesting facts, including that the windmill is the tallest in Essex, Rayleigh is mentioned in the Domesday Book and that Robert Fitzwimarc, one of Rayleigh’s key statemen, is depicted in the Bayeaux Tapestry.

The tours are given by volunteers who obviously have a keen interest in our heritage. Of course, it wouldn’t be a WI outing without tea and cake which we enjoyed in Wilma’s Café. A thoroughly enjoyable Sunday afternoon in the sunshine!
